Sad News - Don Ayton
Hello Everyone
The Club was very sorry to hear that Don Ayton, the longest standing member of the Club died last Friday. He was 86 years old and had been a member for over 50 years. He had been unwell for several months, but only went into hospital two days before he passed away, which is a testament to his tremendous strength and courage.
Don will be remembered as a “legend” by all the squash players for his high standard and amazing endurance to continue playing the game until his late seventies. In his heyday, he was one of the top players in the Club, and one of his many achievements can be seen in the framed article in the squash gallery titled, “Ayton beats Haines in Squash Thriller”. It is believed the match took place in 1967, and it is definitely worth reading by any squash lovers.
In more recent times, and particularly on Monday evenings, Don could be found in the bar enjoying a glass of white wine with his friends. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
I'm sure you will join in expressing the Club's condolences to his two sons Greg and Mark, and their families at this sad time.
