DLTSC wins ‘Club of the Year’ award!

Tennis LTA Award

 Surrey LTA Awards 2024

We are proud to announce that the DLTSC has been honoured with two sought-after LTA (Lawn Tennis Association) awards this year. Firstly, we have won the prestigious Surrey Tennis Club of the Year award and secondly, our Tennis Chairman, Will Edge, has won the Surrey Volunteer of the Year award.

These awards are a testament to the hard work and dedication of all our members, coaches and volunteers who have contributed to making our club a thriving and welcoming community for tennis enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels.

“Over the years, our club has been committed to providing high-quality tennis programs, facilities, and events for our members,” said Arnold Jager, Chairman of DLTSC. “We take pride in fostering a supportive and inclusive environment that encourages both recreational and competitive play. To win the Surrey Tennis Club of the Year Award is a fantastic achievement and a recognition of our efforts to promote the sport of tennis and to enrich the lives of our community through the love of the game.”

In Surrey Tennis’ Volunteer of the Year award the LTA recognises the work of Tennis Chairman, Will Edge, and his Tennis Committee who have done so much to foster a vibrant ethos within the club.

“I would like to put a racquet in the hands of every child in the area to at least have a go at tennis.” he said when he took on the role and followed this ambition through at every level within the club, amongst all ages. Under his leadership the Tennis Committee supported the enlargement of the junior section and encouraged the better players to join adult sessions. They introduced a new-member WhatsApp group and launched coach-led weekend social sessions. They developed more inter club teams enabling over 80 our members to join in with competitions with other clubs. They initiated charitable functions supporting Ukraine, and made the GRACE charity tournament an official annual Club tournament; Will  even persuaded John Lloyd to join us for an evening talk about his tennis experiences.

We extend heartfelt thanks to the LTA for these honours, and to everyone who has been a part of our club's journey. In particular, we would like to thank Head Tennis Coach, Brian Love, (himself a recent winner of the ‘Surrey Development Coach of the Year’ award) for his dedication to the sport and commitment to our club.

Being recognised as Surrey Tennis’ Club of the Year is a major milestone for this club. It helps to motivate us all, whether as members, players or coaches, to continue striving for excellence and to further elevate the tennis experience for everyone who is part of our club. We look forward to welcoming new members and continuing to be a positive force for tennis in Surrey in the years ahead.
