Brian's Newsletter - 11th February
Finally some tennis news! The Australian Open is up and running and with fans in the stadiums. It must be a great feeling for the players to have the support and really nice to see them thanking the fans for coming when they sign the autographs. Norrie was too strong for Evans. Watson played well to move into the 2nd round. Shame for Konta to withdraw through injury and opponents were just too strong for Boulter & Jones. Murray & Soares have high hopes in the men's doubles.
Fascinating watching Kgyrios in action. You just don't know what will happen next! One lucky fan got his smashed racket! He's got Thiem in the next round. That will be great to watch.
Eurosport are doing an offer on their app for 99p for this month so you can watch on your phones or other devices.

Many thanks for the support for my diet... Here are a couple of messages I have received in some form or other...
" At last you fat b*****d! " Fair comment...
" Don't lose too much, we love you as you are and don't want you to change..." Don't worry I'll still dish out the verbals...
" Here's that healthy cake recipe you turned down a while ago.." Thanks for hanging in there!
" Not another one!" Exactly! Reminds me of my dad everytime I told him I'd split up with a girlfriend!
Whatever the comments it's nice to feel the support... As I keep saying, I NEED IT. Desperate for that beach body look!!
Almond Citrus Cake – gluten free ( Thanks Simon O)
2 medium sized oranges
Half a lemon, 3 tbsp olive oil, 4 eggs, 50g xylitol (low in sugar - available from Waitrose or health food shop), 250g ground almonds, Half tsp sea salt, 1 tsp bicarbonate of soda
Cut oranges in half. Place them and the half lemon in a saucepan and cover with cold water. Bring to boil, then simmer until soft (approx 30mins)
Pre-heat oven to 180 C/Gas mark 4. Grease, with butter, a 23cm/9in cake tin with detachable base. Put cooked oranges and lemon into a bowl. Break up with hands, and remove pips.
Use blender to create smooth mixture.
Add all the other ingredients. Mix until smooth. Pour into greased cake tin.
Bake for 45-50 mins until a knife inserted into the centre comes out clean. Leave to cool in the tin.
Cocktail of the Week

Coaching Tip of the Week
Watch out for this if you watch the Aussie Open... In singles, look to attack the second serve by stepping in, taking the return early and nailing it (See Serena Video) Even if it isn't a winner it will give your opponent less time and hopefully put them under enough pressure that you can finish the point on the next shot.
So Boris won't commit yet to whether we can get away in the Summer holidays and that is fair enough. We always want answers but then moan when things go wrong quickly. I think he is learning not to commit too early with information he thinks we want to hear.
We can only dream at the moment of those sunnier destinations... Here are the top 10 most popular wish list destinations ( according to trip advisor)

I couldn't sign off the newsletter without mentioning the rugby last weekend!!! There are so many English members at the club that probably need a big hug after Scotland's famous hammering of England. It doesn't happen so often, if ever! Luckily there weren't any England fans in the stadium. Well done the Welsh too!! An interesting 6 nations ahead.
Sending hugs to everyone that needs one and keep hanging in there through the lockdown. It's not going to be too long. The thing I miss the most is the interaction at the club. It is a great place to be.......
Have a good week and feel free to get in touch....
